Bio

Nick Syman is a trombonist, composer and educator living in St. Paul, MN. He plays regularly with The Adam Meckler Orchestra, Maple & Beech, and leads the chamber ensemble, Northing.   He is currently the director of bands and jazz ensembles at Hudson High School where he is developing a student-led free improvisation curriculum. Nick has a Bachelor of Arts in trombone performance and music education from St. John’s University and a Master of Music in jazz studies from Indiana University.

In 2016 Nick released an album of original compositions with the Nick Syman Quartet.  The Star Tribune called it “Notable” and stated, “Syman […] writes spacious tunes that let the sound of his big horn roll around.”  His current project, Northing, explores the contrasting textures of horns and drums and the overlapping colors of trombones and saxophones.
